Yeah, Visual Studio 2010 is still beta. I recently have been using it for some C# development, and it feels to have a much lighter footprint than previous versions and is packed with even more goodies.

The interface is also very slick... for example selected text has this gradient effect on it that's pretty nice for the eyes, especially after spending a week staring at code.

I know it isn't for everyone, but personally I can't wait for it to RTM!

    Kind regards,

I'm curious to check it out now. :) They keep adding more goodies though, and sometimes I wonder, do people really need all that stuff? One thing I've wished they would work on is the tabbed interface for files. For instance, when you open another file, it seems to always put its tab on the left side - I would expect its tab to be on the right side. Also, you can navigate between tabs using ctrl-tab to go to the tab to the right, but there doesn't seem to be a way to navigate through tabs backwards. Ctrl-shift-tab in other programs (i.e. Mozilla Firefox) lets you navigate through tabs backwards.

    Hey Nightfox,

I've always seen it as: I may use feature A and B, and you may use feature B and C... so doesn't it make sense to include features A B C and D in your program?

You'll be pleased to hear then, perhaps, that VS2010 does support forward and backward tabbing, as well as moving tabs' locations by drag and drop.

I'd say it's worth checking out, at least to taste the difference between older versions. I'm using it more than MonoDevelop these days due to the lighter footprint and UI.

    Kind regards,

    That's true.

That's cool.. Glad to hear that. :)

That's interesting.. I figured MonoDevelop would have had a lighter footprint.
I haven't used it much though. I think it's interesting that a 3rd party has developed tools for developing .NET on other platforms. A while ago, I heard that Microsoft may end up copyrighting parts of .NET, which could prevent 3rd-party developers from developing .NET tools in the future.
