hi everyone just a question for fellow sysops out there, for fidonet do you really need any external programs? i checked my docs for synchronet 3.16 and it says sbbsecho program does it all
i set it up like docs say and tried a cpl times to send a mail to my coordinator so i could get a node number how do i know if its working?
also if i try to set up any third party tossers they seem to wreck my message base even if i follow complete synchronet step by step procedures for those programs.

It does, and I would be very carefull about letting anything else mess with your SMB message bases. I'm not aware of any other apps that support it,
aside from golded+ for reading/writing messages.

i set it up like docs say and tried a cpl times to send a mail to my coordinator so i could get a node number how do i know if its working?

Do you want to netmail your coordinator? Use the email area and send a
message to someone@1:111/111, use their address of course.

also if i try to set up any third party tossers they seem to wreck my message base even if i follow complete synchronet step by step
    procedures for those programs.

I wouldn't do that. Synchronet has it's own (SMB) message base format so I wouldn't use anything but Synchronet tools with it.

you need something to receive the packets, personally I use irex 2

You will also need a program like IREX or Argus to send/receive the packets.

FYI, you might want to change your handle to something other than Sysop.

First, you might want to change your user name. Second, SBBSECHO does
NOT handle the actual transport of the mail packets -- you still need something like Argus or Internet Rex to do that. Also, SBBSECHO does
NOT handle the processing of TIC files. You will need something like
    Allfix! to do that.

Who is your NC by the way?
