and poor living habits, and he began to swell up and get sores on his legs. He asked me to give him a ride to the clinic, then before you
knew it I was running him to the Emergency Room. They checked him in,
and put him on a med that helped him pee away most of the liquid he was retaining. He was also put on blood pressure meds and a water pill.
His heart was running 85% capacity on one side. In a month he lost
about 50 pounds (most was liquid) and racked up a huge medical bill.
He changed several of his habits, but now he has a girlfriend that
likes to drink and eat out at restaurants, so he's picking up weight again. Their work schedules are different enough they don't
want to go hiking or other outdoorsy stuff when they are together.

It's hard to get healthy when you've spent most of your life unhealthy.
I used to weigh 360 lbs, size 60 waist. I took strong blood pressure meds. What saved me was that I did get out an exercise somewhat, but my diet was poor.
Finally my doctor told me I was boardline diabetic and I would need to start monitoring my blood sugar. There are certain things that really bother me and one of them is hurting (even a small poke) myself. So I set out to chan things.
10 years later, I'm 220 lbs, 42 waist, very weak blood pressure medicine (high blood pressure is genetic in my family). I eat mostly veggies now
and exercise daily (which has been hard during the scam-demic with the gyms closed).
It helped that during that time I took up ballroom dancing and found a wife who likes to eat healthy and exercise too. It would have been harder to stay on the "straight and narrow" without her, but it would be impossible
if she was against eating well and exercising.
A friend of mine at work had to lose lots of weight for knee surgery. But his wife kept with the bad eating habits and he ended up getting just as heavy as he was before the surgery.

no i dont think it helps with covid. only the n95 masks and not many have them. also you are touching things and touching your face and eyes more so i think it increases the likelyhood of you introducing the virus to your body that way.

I think people lacks the discipline and equipment to avoid infection. Bars are full of people, people touches their faces without desinfecting their hands, that sort of thing. Most masks people is wearing nowadays are not designed to prevent people from getting infected by pathogens and the manufacturers themselves claim their masks are not suitable.
