A friend worked on an IT project where he worked
independently from the rest of the department, ... he was a
contractor, but some places treat all contractors as long
term staff augmentation,
contractor = long term staff augmentation.
Reminds me of: garbage man = sanitation engineer.
Since he didn't need to interact with
anyone in the department, he received bad marks. ...
some "human performance" expert wanted to interview him
because they couldn't fathom this type of work relationship
functioning in their work "culture."
This is when HR gets lost in the mess of their own devising
and fail to recongnize what a contractor really is.
They informed him this would affect his share in the
incentive program, which was funny because as a contractor
he wasn't a participant in it!
If they went so far as to inform the contractor and not
realize that he was not a regular employee, then that is a sad
commentary indeed.
