True! There is nothing like a good ThinkPad keyboard! A lot of people seem to love the Mac keyboards, and while I'm a heavy mac user when it comes to
modern computing - that keyboard is something I miss. Although my mechanical keyboard is still a wonder. Might need to start a thread about amazing mechanical keyboards...

I would plug in a Mac keyboard from my ancient iMac G3 for my
TP60 when I need a numeric keypad. The iMac keyboard is robust
construction. The keys feel a bit spongy, but the key-strike
    is satisfyingly confident.

I am currently typing on an '84 Apple M0110 keyboard. It's one of the best keyboards I've ever typed on... certainly up there with my more modern Corsair Cherry MX Red (K68) mechanical keyboard.

I've never heard of Corsair making keyboards. How long has
that been around? I like the notion that "there is no audible
click" in the CHERRY MX Red ..very much like the Thinkpad
keyboards. I like the backlit feature.

Not sure how long Corsair has been making peripherals however I've had my keyboard for just over 4 years now. I know, there's no echo either when you type on a Cherry MX Red compared to an older 80s/90s keyboard. I love both and can't really say which I prefer more. The newer mechanical keyboards are much better when gaming, that's a given... but I might actually prefer the M0110 for standard typing.

I know them well. The BBS is running on a T60 with 3 GB of
RAM and 32-bit Windows 10. Running a BBS on a server makes
for a convenient workaround network issues. My power was
out for several days, so I brought the BBS to work,
connected over wifi, and sent/received my mail packets
    from there.

I experimented with a live-boot of Linux Mint Cinnamon on the
T60. It was a nice experience. But.. I rely too much on
    existing Windows progs to change.

What kind of HDD do you have on it? My T60 has an original
250GB HDD.. and it's beginning to show space inadequacy. I've
read that people have had good success with refitting them
    with SDDs.

Any.. the keyboard is a star player.

Ive got an old Dell OEM SATA SSD drive. They're nice, but one of the
quirks of the "transitional" Thinkpads is that they have a PATA to
SATA "bridge", and only run at PATA speeds - so you don't get as much
of a boost in transfer speeds as you could out of an SSD.

It's still a nice speed bump from a spinning drive.

And.. a fine reduction in heat generation + noise, and battery use.

My T60 with 250GB HDD comes out if Hiberate a bit faster than my

    What is keyboard echo?

When you type on an older keyboard there's a distinct echo when pushing down the keys. This doesn't happen with the newer mechanical keyboards... they're a lot quieter.

You're right, the "echo" is the terminal reference...

If you're using a classic buckling spring keyboard and on speakerphone,
then others will tend to head an echo/reverberation when you type... but that's a different issue, but probably what Gamgee is thinking of.
