I wouldn't doubt that somewhere, there is an app to turn
on/off the coffee maker. Now if the app would just put in
the coffee and water, wouldn't that be quite an
    invention?

A few years back we had a coffee maker where you would pour
whole coffee beans into the top. You would then set a timer
and it would grind the beans for you & drop them into the
    coffee filter before brewing.

It was a neat idea, but quite often the grounds would get
jammed on their way down to the filter. This would result
in either a pot of hot water or very weak coffee in the
    morning.

If someone could perfect that idea, and also hook it up to a
water supply, this could be a $1,000,000 idea.

I just have one of those cone holders that sits on top of a
cup. The filter (No.2) is in the holder. Add ground coffee
beans. Pour hot water. DONE in less than 2 minutes. Toss out
the used grounds. Hardly any cleanup. The longest wait is
just for the water to boil.

Why bother with all the high tech where so much can go wrong?

Occasionaly when I stop at Starbucks they'll be "out" of decaf and offer to make me a "pour over" which is the same idea you describe here.

To my surprise it tasted "cleaner" than the usual cup-o-mud I sometimes get from them. Ever since then if I'm in the area & want a decaf I order a pour over decaf from Starbucks.

Because adding bluetooth makes everything better! ;)

    PREACH.

One of the keys to good coffee is the temperature of the water going
in. Most coffee makers don't get the water anywhere near 192-195
degrees, which is the sweet spot. with a kettle and drip cone, it's
    no problem.

    I have a 8yr old Bosch single-cup brewer. I have long since
abandoned buying the pre-packaged pods for it. I just hacked the
machine with a barcode from a coffee-pod and it "thinks" it's
brewing coffee. It really just dispenses hot water to a cup that has
a cone filter and my own ground coffee.
