If I try to connect using the addresses I find on the web, many of those listings are either NG or need to be updated. I enjoy checking out other SysOps handy work but it's difficult to keep my address book current :-(

Trust me, it's hard for me to track stuff down.

A lot of times they're using dynamic DNS and either it's not properly updating, or they didn't pay the bill and the domain is no longer working.

That's why I record the IP address, and if the domain dies I'll update the Telnet BBS Guide listing for their IP.

Hate to do it, but if they're not keeping up on their end.... :/

you should post on their fidonet echo instead of on a synchronet general echo. ---

It's not just Mystic SysOps; it's a variety of almost any BBS software out there. It's not always an easy task to keep an updated hostname or domain
name when it's provided by a free service or a dynamic IP address that's
always changing and not able to connect a particular time.

We appreciate your service in keeping up with all the BBSes on the table.

Yeah, we need to listen on this one and keep our hostname/domain names
up to date. There's so much more potential for SysOps and it's a terrible
loss when we lose one or two. The good news is, there's returning SysOps
and people that are interested in running a board. Perhaps also, we need
to educate these new people on how to keep their board alive as far as a priority to have these boards always on-line to keep traffic flowing.
Nothing more irritating then getting on a board and not being able to
connect. However, there are technical issues also like hard drive crashes
and things of that nature, so please make backups whenever you can so you
won't lose everything and end up giving up.

Yeah, sometimes it just takes time for the hostname to populate so there
isn't always immediate results. Also, if there is a HDD crash, they'd have
to get their systems back up and running before even thinking of updating
their listing if that's the only system they have.

Is it a Mystic issue? I find my Atari directory is one of the hardest to keep up to date. Or C64 too, although thats gotten better since the new Image people have really been active.

Two directories. One for my fav, daily, boards... another for all of em.
