A lot of times they're using dynamic DNS and either it's not properly updating, or they didn't pay the bill and the domain is no longer
working.
That's why I record the IP address, and if the domain dies I'll update
the Telnet BBS Guide listing for their IP.
Hate to do it, but if they're not keeping up on their end.... :/
We appreciate your service in keeping up with all the BBSes on the table.
Yeah, we need to listen on this one and keep our hostname/domain names
up to date. There's so much more potential for SysOps and it's a terrible
loss when we lose one or two. The good news is, there's returning SysOps
and people that are interested in running a board. Perhaps also, we need
to educate these new people on how to keep their board alive as far as a priority to have these boards always on-line to keep traffic flowing.
Nothing more irritating then getting on a board and not being able to
connect. However, there are technical issues also like hard drive crashes
and things of that nature, so please make backups whenever you can so you
won't lose everything and end up giving up.
Sincerely,
Jon Justvig
