    I wonder if/when this whole pandemic blows over, if we'll go back to socializing in coffee shops, or if we'll just hop on the cafe's wifi
    and check Instagram.
    I grew up in the era when you'd go to a coffee shop with a pen and
    paper and a book, and possibly strike up a conversation with someone
    about what one of you was reading.

    God I miss this. I'll be the first to admit that in this brave new world I really don't have a clue how to meet people IRL any more. Well, part of it is the region of the country that I live in (which I will _never_ cease railing about), but even when I'm somewhere else it's damn rough for me to think of a topic worth interrupting someone's suckling at the electronic teat.

    Having a phone is a lousy obstacle for me.

    But then last time I advanced on a gal I popped up from out of the blue in a carefully planned ambush, just as she stepped off her car. I told her I wanted to befriend her mare :-)

    The mare was great and enjoyed my beard hard enough. The gal, not so much.

    Cool, thanks for sharing. Reddit is great. One of my favorites is /r/gameofbands for you musicians out there. I have met, made music, and become life long friends with people all over the world in that community.

    I love this! I've never heard that. LOL

    Heh. I came up with it when I saw how my son, growing up with utterly unlimited access to electronics for awhile, totally _COULD NOT_ give up the teat at any point. He would be walking down the hallway watching youtube on his mobile, he'd have his mobile under his computer screen in his bedroom, watching a youtube video and playing roblox at the same time, his PS4 was the same way, etc etc. It reminded me of a baby suckling, and absolutely refusing to let go and freaking out if they got disconencted. Heh.

    I've been working on that, and other activities that pull the teat out of the way for as many hours as possible during the day. Unfortunately, this last summer I was kind of out of play out of the time, so I wasn't able to be consistent with it.
    At this point I'm seriously considering just taking all of the electronics away, too. God it's awful, and it may be too late for small measure to be of much good.
