Hey. I just bought a new laptop with Windows 10 Home. I'm
just glad I did the research before I made a purchase. I
use software I can't get from Microsoft and I would have
been pissed if I could only DL from Microsoft. The audio
software I use is not available for linux so I had to make
a choice. I'm going to end up dual booting anyway. After
30 years of computing I'm still dealing with the Microsoft
monopoly. It sux!

I thought there were ways to operate both OSes at the same
time these days. Isn't that accomplished using VMs (virtual
machines)?
Do you actually need to dual-boot to the other OS just so that
you can operate your audio software?

You can use a virtual machine to run a different OS, but sometimes it's better for the OS to have direct access to the hardware. If you're
doing something that does heavy video or audio processing, you might
want the OS to run directly on the hardware. For music recording specifically, I think there may be additional latency added with a VM,
so it would probably be better to do that directly on the hardware.
