I want a cat, but the other problem is they will jump on your desk and interrupt your game play.

The cats I've been around have thrown up occasionally, but I've never actually been around a cat that peed or pooped in any place other than their litterbox. Cats seem to be fairly smart about that. My (ex) wife and I got a couple of cats 4 years ago and they've always peed and pooped in their litterbox from day one. Yes, they do claw at things, which can be frustrating. My computer chair (with faux leather or something) is all
ripped up due to the cats, though on the other furniture there's hardly any visible damage.

Getting a dedicated cat tree helps a lot... just giving them something that they should scratch on, maybe seeding with catnip for a couple days/weeks and putting them there more often.
Of course, funniest thing a cat ever did was pee on the microwave if you let their feeder go empty. You left them without food, they pee where your food comes from.

As someone with a puppy in the house, I'm not sure I can distinguish the difference in any meaninful way.

Of course, funniest thing a cat ever did was pee on the microwave if you
cats throw up because they arent meant to eat the cereal based food
people give them. they also gorge themselves and puke.
i understand how cats think so i changed some things and that has
helped. there's still that one that pisses on the baby's stuff or
pisses and shits on the new cat tree we got. with the tree it was
territory.
Cats also respond to being stressed. Treat them well and they will then most likely meet your expectations too.

Some cats have been known to pee on the bed at night, and that appears to be malicious. Seems to be more common with female cats for some reason. We had 2 male cats, and they were really great. Sure, a little mischevious at times, but good with the litter tray. The cats have since passed away at ripe old age (19 and 17 years). :(

We have a saying in my family: female dogs and male cats make good pets.

no matter what, the bengal would piss on things. the vet loved
her. she spent 8k in one year on that cat over stupid shit.
one time she was salivating a lot and i said she had an
infected gland and needed anti biotic. she wouldnt listen to
me. so the vet did 100 tests and removed growths on her face
and did biopsies and brushed her teeth and did the works on her
and ended up i was right.
one time this cat stood over her on the couch and just emptied
her bladder on my ex.
she also ruined a new leather couch and a matching chair [which i have. it was professionaly cleaned and i dumped 3 gals of vinegar on it and let it
dry out in the garage]

I don't think you can just order a vet to give an antibiotic
without conducting some set of tests.
