To be fair, most of my users were there for the door games so given the choice between LORD or Breath of the Wild I know which one I'd choose.
BBS Door games offer a unique experience rarely seen in other corners of the gaming world and that is a multi-player experience which is asynchronous (that is you don't have to be online at the same time as the other people you're playing with).
I mean when I was younger and could afford to waste my days away with countless hours of Everquest or WOW it was fine but as an adult with a full time job and a wife and generally a life outside of video games if you want to play some multiplayer games at 6am while you're sipping coffee then BBS Doors fit the bill. You log in, take your turns, log out, come back later and repeat.
There isn't much of that going on in the gaming world today, either you play when your friends play (thus making sacrifices in your personal life) or you play single player (thus missing out on the social aspect).

The hardest part of gaming is taking time away from the family. I remember sitting in the living room with my wife and children wandering around annoyed that I was playing video games. Yes, they'd enjoy
watching me play CoD or one of the Zelda games, but at the end of the
day, I wasn't spending time with them.
Computers have always been entertainment when everyone else is asleep. First, it was gang-dialing BBSes trying to get through the busy
signals. Now, it's waiting until everyone's asleep to play War
Thunder.
I'm sitting here on the couch in the living room asking my wife if she minds if I "computer" for a bit. She doesn't care but I feel guilty nonetheless. Her and I always enjoy being near each other, probably another reason why I hate playing video games (since she can't or won't join in).

Be Careful. My computer use caused our divorce many years ago. ;-)

If your wife tells you to choose between your computer and her, rest assured that getting rid of her was the proper thing to do.

LOL ... my wife and I have been together for 27 years (married for almost 22). I think it comes down to communication rather than permission. Plus, I'm on my computer for at least 8 hours Monday through Friday... she's a lot more entertaining.
Is that 8 hours per day, or 8 hours spread over Monday through Friday?

Without a doubt. But it was the lack of attention that put push it over the edge. I don't regret any of it. The whole thing was wrong from the start.
