In light of the discussions of "What killed OS/2", there is a
class action lawsuit that is settling a matter about MS's unfair
    pricing practices:

Has anyone else seen the tv commercials about claiming money for
old MS software? It promotes the following website:

" Did you buy PC versions of Microsoft MS-DOS, Windows, Office,
Word, Works, and/or Excel between 1998 and 2010 for use in
Canada?ÿ If so, you might be eligible for compensation. "

The commercial has been playing for at least a couple weeks now.

DETAILS of the lawsuit are here:

    https://bit.ly/3oh15Dt

The payouts for each individual product are small. But you can
fill up the list with every known version of DOS and Windows and
other various MS products to reach close to $250 and not require
    receipts.

"Court-approved legal fees of roughly $100 million will be
deducted from the settlement, as will the cost of ads. "

The lawyers are big winners here.

"Any money that isn't claimed will be returned to Microsoft."

    We can't let THAT happen!

As usual, I bet the lawyers get first cut and the plaintiffs get to share a fixed pool of $$$, so the more people sign up, the less money paid per
    person.

What a racket, eh? Court and legal costs get priority as
deductions, and the Plaintiff is left with the crumbs.
