    It is taking the first line of text, regardless of what that is to populate the Subject Field, if you do not use the --SUBJ:-- line.

    You have to use the --SUBJ:-- functionality in Telegram, or it will simply take the first text, no matter what it is.

    Ideally, the script should skip the control strings, imho.

    If the rule is that --to: -- and --subj: -- are not mutually
    exclusive, I can live with that. But and either/or situation would
    be nicer.
