Mark's message arrived here just fine...

Maybe you have to be more clear about that you mean you don't receive it on the specific point address you are using now! ;-)

    Bye, Wilfred.

It's really the same old same old.. one continuous timeline. There's a lot of tradition behind "ringing in the new year" only because of a date. Maybe it was a conspiracy of a variety of industries [hotelier, booze, etc..] to improve or maintain sales. ;)

That would make sense, & the date of the new year changes occasionally to accommodate another corporate leader's desire to cash in on it & try to outdo the competition from another angle, as they've sewn up the original?

I skip the hoopla, go to bed early on 31/12, & if I wake up the next day & all is gone, I'll just go back to bed. (I started that bit for Y2K & kept it as I like it)

I find that sticking to a regular sleep period is indeed a good
idea. This year was the first time in many years that I
actually had two days off in a row. When Jan 1 would all on a
weekday, I'd be back at work the next day. This time Jan 2 fell
on Sunday, so that was a day off too. I wouldn't want to feel
"tired" or trip up my sleep pattern just because of a silly
    midnight tradition.

Logical. I've never been big one the holidays -- would rather work them & get paid 250% for my time, than sit at home trying to figure out stuff to do when everything's closed.

My coworkers love it ("you want Xmas off? Sure; no problem, no need to work one of my days in exchange")

Most of my bosses only care that the shifts are covered as per the schedule -- the who isn't so important as the when.

For the observances that are meaningful to me, I can take time any time, work or home, to focus on the meaning & spirit of the day.

When I was a teenage business owner, & otherwise in my teens, Xmas was all about the spirit -- I'd get someone to pick me up a 40 of whiskey & invite a couple buddies over to get sloshed. . .

Once we went out in as much of a blizzard as Mission ever gets & did carolling.

In the hour before we got too cold, we were given enough money(we had no idea that would happen!) to buy full price smokes & a hot meal in a warm restaurant for all of us!
