    In The Gun Seller, by Hugh Laurie, I read this:

    bills into the bin, and then remembered that I'd moved the bin into the
    kitchen - so I got annoyed, stuffed the rest of the post into a drawer,
    and gave up on the idea that doing chores would help me to get things
    straight in my mind.

    Did he mean that he threw his mail on the floor?

    Did he mean that he threw his mail on the floor?

    That is how I read it... he threw some mail into the "trashbin" before realizing the trashbin was not where it normally would be. So, my guess is
    the same as yours, that he dropped it on the floor by mistake.
