    Hello Wayne,

    [...]

With the coronavirus pandemic ravaging the world,
and couples having to remain 6 feet apart at all
times, nobody knows what this means for the future
of the human race. Unless one is from Sweden, which
steadfully refuses to go into total lockdown.

    Interesting.

    Indeed.

About the numbers you presented, I would suggest never taking these numbers at face value. (You probably know better than I all the reasons for numbers to come out wrong.) You'd be pleased to find some way of checking them for contradictions. For an _example_, see ``Lecture 6: Graph Theory and Coloring'' at

Fake news! Fake news! How does anybody know what really goes on
    behind closed doors?

IIRC, it's the first thing shown in the lecture: U. of Chicago and ABC
had different claims about how often men have sex as compared to women. Using some basic graph theory, it is shown how neither one could
    possibly be correct.

Men want it. Women need it.
But first they gotta want it.

Nobody knows, but it is sometimes possible to know is whether people's
    stories are contradictory.

When it comes to extracting information from people, it is interesting
to do it in an indirect way and hopefully checking the answers against
each other. Instead of asking them how often they do X, it might be
better to ask Y. Assuming Y implies X, we know X was done. Also, if
possible, ask Z too, assuming Z also implies X. (If they answer no to Y
and yes to Z, we might as decide to discard the information.)

Nobody is saying this is easy to do. ;-)

    Hello Everybody,

Students at a college in New York are upset. Why? Don't they
have enough to protest about? Whatever could prompt them to go
so far as to call for the removal of a tenured professor from
the sacred halls of higher learning?

Well, it's like this. A philosophy professor says that sex between
adults and children is okay. And not all students agree. Especially
since the professor gets first dibs.

Here is what one student wrote about her experiences, and why
she believes the professor should be shown the door -

A philosophy/ethics professor at Fredonia has expressed his support
and encouragement of pedophilia and adult-child sexual relationships,
in interviews, his own academic papers, and even class material. While
the university can and should foster a difference of opinions, these
views are directly harmful to a community already dealing with
instances of sexual assault and struggles with consent. While Fredonia
made a statement saying his views don’t reflect that of the institution,
by labeling him as a distinguished professor and supporting his
problematic academic papers, it directly shows the college encourages
his actions and views, and personally, I don’t feel safe on a campus
that encourages this behavior. We need to have Stephen Kershnar removed
from campus to preserve both the safety and integrity that this
institution of SUNY Fredonia promises and should strive to be known
    for.

    -=end quote=-

What do you think? Is it okay for adults to have sex with children?
Remember, this is America, where people's rights are protected by the
First Amendment. And college professors have tenure, so can never be
    fired for anything they say.

Now sign the petition. You can do it with a click.

At Fidonet, we believe in the voice of everyday sysops. And also
wannabe sysops. Is there something that you want to change?
