    Check memoirs of any high level spy from Russia - every Russian embassy is full of FSB/GRU operatives, why do think it's a madhouse to expell them home?
    It's a very logical step, madhouse is a an idea to allow them to continue their espionage activities.

    Books by Gordievsky are very good example of internal "kitchen" of our foreign embassies.

    I am sure all embassies do some espionage activities. But now the
    expelling have a political nature.

    Our expelled sportsmen were provided with competions in Russia, so maybe
    there will be a Russian embassy in exile. ;-) Poor people. Looks like
    the expelling Adam and Eve from paradise, even without eaten apple.
