Saying it's wrong would be incorrect. FMail doesn't do it but other software do quote points on the PATH. That's my point (with a shortened ID)... oh, this one! One of a few. :)

    Good! :)

We are talking about his software, and I think he should know, and I don't see him active in the areas...

I recently noticed one other thing that 2:301/1 does, on the messages
by Flavio with an empty subject line: 2:301/1 replaces the empty
subject by a single space subject. You would probably not notice that
in your reader, but it fooled my dupe detection. :-(

I didn't notice that. But I missed some messages from Flavio and you, maybe
    because of that..

I doubt that would be the cause. But we have a direct link so it should be easy to investigate, if you want? Just give me a MSGID or other information about the messages of mine that you missed, and I will look them up in my logs...

    Bye, Wilfred.

That message took the long route! ;)

    So Wut?

So nothing... It's just a remarkable "long" route. The message travels through Australia, to go back to a system in the same net as the original poster, and than goes to New Zealand to finally reach me... ;-)

But distance, either physical or in number of hops, in todays fidonet is irrelevant, only speed counts...

    Bye, Wilfred.

Yes! I probably can't get good beer but I can get a selection of local micro-brewers within 25 miles of here for you to try?

I\ll make 'hunk bread' and some other stuff an then go take a ship tour (of a live ship, not a museum).

It's just a silly tradition. Harmless. Pay it no mind and don't make it out as more than it is, a nomenclature of the past that folks in somezones are used to.

Anyway you could just omit the domain, as it's useless in MSGIDs. Most of us don't have it.

Just remove it from your GoldEd config (ADDRESS or AKA field) and leave only your Fidonet address.

The message you are responding to is not configured correctly either. His name is Björn with a diaresis on the 'o'. But as the CHRS kludge is missing many readers will not display it correctly. The encoding is LATIN-1 in this case.

For the CHRS kludge see FTS-5003.

You think right, no CHRS kludge. And no REPLY kludge either.

so I'm not sure that I can expect those characters to show up properly
    for the time being... =)

Indeed, without a CHRS kludge the software of the receiver does not know how to show non-ASCII it to the reader.

So why do your messages not have a CHRS kludge?

This is because Mystic doesn't add them to the messages when storing them. AFAIK there is currently no easy way to fix this, but I'm hoping that this will be fixed in some future version.

So why do your messages not have a CHRS kludge?

This is because Mystic doesn't add them to the messages when storing
them. AFAIK there is currently no easy way to fix this, but I'm hoping that this will be fixed in some future version.

Your problem is not new. It has been there for as long as I remember, so a quick fix may be wishfull thinking...

Maybe it is time to make a choice:

    1) Stop using non-ASCII in your messages, including the non-ASCII in your first name.

    2) Change to software that can properly deal with non-ASCII. (As documented in FTS-5003)

I wouldn't put that on top of my list of priorities if I were you. If the name you present in the nodelist and the from field of your messages is your real name and not a simplification for the sake of ASCII representation, and you do not use non-ASCII in your messages, the missing CHRS kludge is not a big thing.

I suggest you give priority to the MSGID/REPLY issue. Your MSGID misses the leading hex 01 and so it is not recognised by others as such. Without a MSGID there can be no REPLY kludge. IOW it breaks the reply chaining. Finding the original message in a busy area can become a bit of a challlenge.

    Cheers, Michiel

I have already fixed the kludge issues. Should be resolved in the nexy
build of my tosser, ctoss. It should append the chr(1) to the
kludges approriately for the kludges required.

Yeah, I'm working on it still.

    So what is the problem?

    1) You do not have access to the DNS zone of outworldbbs.com?

    2) outworldbss.com is not the correct host name and your NC does not correct it in the nodelist?

    3) Some other problmen?

Currently setting up a small seperate network at home to not open up
my systems here to the world.

Running a Fidonet node and/or a BBS implies opening some doors to the rest of the world. No way to do that will all doors closed.

Taking a bit longer than anticipated. Hope to have telnet up in the
    coming week(s).

You advertise binkp connectivity in the nodelist. I'd say that is priority #1...
