Actually probably futher! I was watching the demolition of the old I-74
Bridge this morning on TV. The bridge itself is down the hill from me,
about a dozen block. "Channel 8" studios are on the other side of the Mississippi River from me, so let's round to four miles. (Their
transmitter is about 15 miles away - but let's not get too complicated!)

So Channel 8 was getting their video feed of the bridge from the Iowa Department of Transportation in Des Moines, 170 miles away.

So so far I-74 Bridge Camera to Des Moines 170 miles
and back to Channel 8 Studios 170 miles + 4
to their transmitter 15 miles
and back to me 15 miles

So me watching something a few blocks away really goes around 375 miles!


And then it gets 'worse'!! I recorded the event on my computer. My ISP is
in Indianapolis, so add at least 310 miles in there somewhere!

boggling when broken down like that. :)

Well there used to be the old kids' trick probably back in the 1960's
where someone in (say) Boston could dial the Operator, ask for the Nome, Alaska, Operator, the ask the Nome Operator to call a neighbour, Must
have been another step: person-to-person (?) as somehow the neighbour
had to be told they were being told they were being called by Alaska.
My friends never did it as we figured we'd manage to get in deeeeep
trouble!
