  • dupes in messagebase

    Is there any tool/script that can detect (and if possible, remove) dupe messages in a messagebase? (JAM, Squish, ...)

    You bbs system should be doing that as it tosses new messages.

    Well mbse does anyway, and you can increase the dup table if needed and mine is
    set at 250,000, at least at the moment and it is catching them.
    I did reset this last month after deleting all echo areas as one or more was broken and I cannot find a JAM fix up program.

    Sods law allowed as a few days later someone sent in 10,000 old msgs that included dupes that it missed and only stopped the one's over 28 days old.
    How ever that was done to me deleting the dupes database when clearing out the JAM echos databases.

    My tosser is doing it very well. I ask on behalf of a fellow sysop that didn't have dupe checking enabled and got a bunch of old dupe msgs that normally would have been discarded.

    (I can think of some ways of doing it without such a tool, but would not be useful for a BBS with users as lastread pointers would be lost.)

    That is a different and difficult problem to resolve and I don't have a answer.
