I moved around a lot in my younger days (cross town, across the state,
across the country) and when in a new area I would need dental work.
Each time the dentist would examine me and say all the previous dental
work had to be removed and start over again. I had bridges, crowns, caps, etc replaced.
When I went to a dentist here I asked after some work was done if
everything needed to be replaced. "Not unless you want it" he replied. He became
my dentist right then and was until he died several years later.
Dentists seem(ed) to be very protettive of their work and wanted each
mouth to be their own creation.
He also did a lot of denture work and when I got mine his place did the
work. (He had passed away by then). Never have had a problem with them.

Not that I know of...I must have a feed problem somewhere.

The only reason I'm up at this hour, was that severe storms
moved through a bit ago, and I just brought the system back up.

I will be going back to bed after I'm done, and I don't plan
to go out again until later in the week...unless I see something
important in the P.O. Box via the USPS app. With storms forecast
on Wednesday, and rain on Thursday, I likely will stay home both
of those days.

I'm going to have to remember that one...that was just too funny. That
was just too funny. That's in line with the bumper sticker that said "My driving scares me, too". Or one that said "Hit Me. I Need The Money". <G>

I don't think I ever ran into that. I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed in March, 1978...then had all of the rest of the teeth removed in July, 2000.
It was late September that year before I got dentures...so I've been with
my own set of "falsies" for 21 years. I guess I'm old enough to get into
heavy drinking...of non-alcoholic beverages. <G> Lately, I'm drinking
lemonade flavored Kool-Aid (not the Jim Jones Guyana brand, though <G>).

He also did a lot of denture work and when I got mine his place did
the work. (He had passed away by then). Never have had a problem with them.

About 10 years after I had the original ones in, I was going to need them re-lined. But, the dentist I was going to wanted well over $1000 to do it.
Yet, he told me about this one business called "Affordable Dentures" that
was closer to my home. So, I went there, and got a basic pair (upper and
lower) for around $450. I didn't care what they looked like...I just wanted
to be able to eat. They fit so perfectly, that I haven't had to use one bit
of PoliGrip, Fixodent, etc. on them.

However, if I cough or sneeze, they tend to want to fly out of my mouth. :P That reminds me of an episode of this TV courtroom show, where this one
woman was just talking on and on (come up for air, lady!!). She sneezed, and her dentures flew out of her mouth. She just bent down, picked them up off
the carpet, and put them back in her mouth. The judge asked "Aren't you going to wash them first??". She said "No", and was right back to her yacking.
Can you say "Ewww!!"??

I had to change my Medicare insurance last year, to get vision and dental insurance. Before then, one of the teeth on the lower denture had chipped.
It cost $125 to replace the tooth!! Another time, I had lost my grip on the dentures after cleaning them (I had soaked them overnight), and they dropped, breaking in two. So, I had to take them back to the place to be repaired. I forgot how much I had to pay for that. When they make the new dentures, any adjustments the first 60 days are free. After that time, "a nominal fee" applies. To me, the term "nominal" is relative.

I'm to have Yag Laser Surgery on my right eye on Nov. 18. I had undergone cataract surgery over 10 years ago, which corrected my visual acuity from 20/2000 to 20/20, with a little astigmatism. Well, normally after cataract surgery, a film develops on the lens, and it has to be burned off by the
Yag Laser. The left eye was done a few months after the surgery, but it
appears that the right eye needs it now.

I'm no longer able to drive at night, as my vision is "fogged" with the headlights, etc. There weren't any complications after the left eye surgery, but losing the sight is a remote possibility. If the surgery doesn't go
well, then I have to sell the car, as I won't be able to drive anymore.
While I can get groceries and medications delivered, as well as take Uber
out twice a month to the Post Office Box, or additional runs to go to any doctors appointments...it will suck being stuck at home.

Dentists, Vets, & Funeral Directors only get the big bucks by fudging just a little in deniable ways sometimes technically within the law.

In my job I've talked to 100s of funeral directors and ONLY ONE, worldwide, was honest & didn't try to overcharge or oversell us.

Their(dentists) problem is they can only do so much billable work per day, so to earn more from their trade they need to upgrader their billingcodes per patient.

Part of my job is to prevent that (some is the debntist trying to cash in, some is the beneficiary trying to get cosmetic work paid for by insurance; either way, nope! Simplest way is I tell the denbtist, "We'll pay you x for this & that work; anything else you must negotiate with the patient.")

Puts a stop to it quite nicely!

I had a dentist who wanted to drop me as a patient (because I was on government disability & it paid less than private; legally he can't drop me as a patient for this, so he cooked uyp a way to get me to quit myself --involving much pain then billing my insurance for my year's max for doing half a job); in my new community, a friend who is a lawyer agreed ths was shjoddy, & wrote a strongly worded lawyer's letter to him to refund all the 'overbilled' amount asap or he would see them in court, acting pro bono for me.

Then he refered me to his childhood buddy, who was a dentist(retired now) who fixed me all up, & didn't even charge me! Natch, I kept him as my new dentist until he retiired, now I'm shopping around in the practice trying to find a dfecent human dentist. I'm not expecting free work; I'll pay the overage, if I can have 3 months, max, to do so. The finance girls there know how to get half my work billed under a separate budget, so my max survives longer before I need to kick in.

Got a new vet who's not as bad/greedy as the last one, but I still need to start tightening the chain on him, though. :(

Now it's done & we're backl to the usual south coast/lower valley drear with bits of sun here & there to give us hope & a pittance of Vitamin D.

I'm eating a daily immunity booster regimen of vitamins & minerals these days.

the occasional quart or two of homemade spicy chicken soup

They had several tornadoes in Louisiana and Mississippi today. A line of heavy rainshowers just moved through. I had the system up, as I was awake,
but I was a bit nervous, thinking I'd have to scurry and unplug stuff. But, with the change of seasons, we're in an unsettled weather pattern right now.

Now it's done & we're backl to the usual south coast/lower valley drear with bits of sun here & there to give us hope & a pittance of Vitamin
D.

Lately, we've gotten "liquid sunshine". :P

Can't be too prepared for infection this time of year, during a
pandemic.

I had a telemedicine conference this morning, and they recommended because
of hypertension and a high BMI, that I get the booster. But, with 2 clinic visits in mid-November...having to need some prescription refills soon (I
may have to wait until Friday to do it, because of storms)...and having to
be isolated at home for 2 weeks after the shot...I'm having to work the schedule, as it were.

Yikes! A re-line costs me about $100 or so.
I think my dentures ran around $2,000. I got the porcelain ones and look perfectly nature.

There was a product, either a mouthwash or toothpaste, that had that as
their slogan...but the product name escapes me.

I don't use any either, no need.

And, with the prices of everything going up, wherever you can save
money, helps all the more.

Well, it had been 6 months since I had the second one...and except for

fine. With the colder weather, the arthritis hurt more...and I had a bad
IBS attack the night before...so, I was sleep deprived. I crashed out much

I bought 3 lanyard deals with clear pouches from Amazon. One of the
lanyards broke, but I was able to put my COVID-19 card in it, and then
ziplock it shut. This way, it doesn't get dog-eared in the wallet, and
it's there at a glance.
