    Alan,
That was a really quick reply.

I calculated less than ten minutes from my posting to your reply.

I am in EDT, you're way West of me where the time is earlier.

I got back in to this BBS I in early January and have joined several echos.
I remember your Name from two years back before the DSL quit on me and Fiber didn't work with my XP box.

Been using a Android phone to get my BBS and internet fix.

I have an android phone as well but I don't use it for BBSing. My other half has a tablet. That might be workable for BBSing but I still use a PC.

I had DSL, but it was giving me problems so I called AT&T.
The Tech came to look at my problem and said there was slowness caused by something at their end.
Tech suggested I should cancel DSL and order Fiber Internet.
I did, Fiber never worked after the Tech who installed the service left when finally a website came up on my notebook.
That site came up after failing to connect to five pages that I tried earlier.

The site that came up on the notebook was att.com .

My XP box had ben moved out so a hole could be drilled in the floor for the fiber cable.
I reconnected the XP box and no pages would load, tried using the notebook and not even the AT&T page would load.
I called and cancelled the service and sent their Router back by UPS

Last year I ordered Fiber again, tried to get a website to show up, failed again, cancelled again.

This January I went to Cricketwireless and became their customer.

Back in the saddle again ... - Gene Autry

Using this Android phone to log on the BBS is slightly difficult but I'm here

As I wrote in some echo earlier, if I can get this thing and the XP to work together I would be happy.

I think You suggested using Bluetooth between those devices and I have been trying to learn where to get what I need to do Bluetooth here.

Internet. I did, Fiber never worked after the Tech who
installed the service left when finally a website came up
    on my notebook. [...]

Doesn't sound like he did a very thorough test. You should have
had consistent successful connections, and not just the att.com
    site.

Last year I ordered Fiber again, tried to get a website to
show up, failed again, cancelled again. [...]

Too bad you can't use the more ubiquitous DSL or cable. They
traditionally offer data packages at lower prices than wireless
    might.

This January I went to Cricketwireless and became their
    customer.

But that is just a mobile carrier, no?

Using this Android phone to log on the BBS is slightly

Yup.. a hotspot/tethered connection is all there is to it.

The Vista-based laptop ought to support that. Have fun.

The notebook isn't the MAIN PC here, I use it occasionally.
XP is a desktop, I rather use it at home with AC Power.

I searched today for what I need and saw that it is a USB Bluetooth 5.0 radio.

Bluetooth, I hope is not as susceptible to eves dropping as is WEP Wi-Fi.
    Hope it is very secure.

Doing Email and Texting on this phone I'm comfortable with.
BBSing takes a lot more work with the phone compared to what I have been used to on all the computers I've used in the past.

Right. That should let your XP talk to the internet from the
    phone.

Once you can shore up the internet with your XP desktop, you
should be able to fire up Multimail.

You are a natural to need an account with Alexy on TELEMAIL (I think that was the name). August can help you. Functionally it operates like a point system off Alexy that delivers emailed packets.

I don't recall if 'MEMORIES' was asked to join it but trust me, totally safe and it's not really different from transx emailed packet delivery. Not 'gating' and works well from cellphones.

August, do you have a list of echos on it?

In the past two years that I've been off line there has been some newer methods of messaging that I have no idea about.
