• Right-Wing Lie of the Day

"I’m going to actually utilize my own freedom, my own health autonomy, and I’m going to choose not to get the vaccine, and now we are demonizing those people. Around the world, they’re putting them basically into internment camps. What is going on?" -- US Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI)

Johnson's staff said that this remark was in reference to a single Australian quarantine site in Howard Springs where incoming international travelers are required to quarantine for 14 days in order to make sure that they're not bringing COVID-19 into the country.

The quarantine site is not an internment camp. The stay is 14 days, not
months or years as is the usual case with internment camps. The quarantine is not targeted at the unvaccinated, as Johnson claims, but at international travelers. Additionally, it's one site, not "around the world."

In short, Johnson completely mischaracterized the Australian quarantine
policy to claim persecution of the unvaccinated worldwide, which is
    absolutely a lie.

We should probably be doing the same.

The immigrants being put into hotels for quarantine purposes are not "illegal." They are refugees requesting asylum, and their presence in the country is legal.

The "who is paying for it? " is what bothers many of us, regardless of
    their legal/illegal status.

The "who is paying for it? " is what bothers many of us, regardless of their legal/illegal status.

This is an issue here as well. The illegal crossers cost an average of $14,000 to $20,000CDN in processing and hotel bills and have created a massive backlog of cases. This affects how we (as a country) can process the refugees and immigrants that we accepted or want to accept who went through the proper process. It is why it is a non-partisan issue where the majority want it stopped but the government is ignoring the "will of the people".

Right-Wing Lie of the Day 0006

"It looks like the coronavirus is being weaponized as yet another element to bring down Donald Trump. Now, I want to tell you the truth about the coronavirus ... I'm dead right on this. The coronavirus is the common cold, folks." -- Rush Limbaugh

I think it is funny that your last two "lies of the day" have been from the distant past, like you are having to reach out pretty far to find them.

OTOH, if you were posting Left-Wing or Biden Administration lies of the
day, you could easily pick one out of each day's Psaki press conference or,
if you could understand him, whatever Biden says that day.

That is intentional. Time has a way of sorting fact from fiction, and
    rendering once-controversial lies mundane.

Right-Wing Lie of the Day 0014

    Sharpiegate

As Hurricane Dorian approached the east coast of the US, then-president Trump tweeted that the storm was headed for Alabama, a claim that was disputed minutes later by the National Weather Service.

Nevertheless, Trump continued to repeat the claim.

Days later, after much criticism, Trump appeared on national television with
a map purporting to support his claim. On this map, the projected path of the hurricane had been crudely extended with a black marker. The map's alteration did not match either a previous White House photo or contemporary official
NOAA maps of the hurricane's trajectory. Asked whether the map had been
    altered with a Sharpie, Trump replied, "I don't know. I don't know. I don't know."

Despite having said about 2018's Hurricane Michael at a 2019 rally, "I've
just come from a stop at Tyndall Air Force Base, where I saw the devastating effects of that Category 5 hurricane, Category 5. Never heard about Category
5s before, a Category 5 is big stuff," Trump also said about Hurricane
Dorian, "We don’t even know what’s coming at us. All we know is it’s possibly the biggest. I’m not sure that I’ve ever even heard of a
Category 5. I knew it existed. And I’ve seen some Category 4s; you don’t even see them that much. But a Category 5 is something that I don’t know
that I’ve even heard the term other than I know it’s there. That’s the ultimate. And that’s what we have, unfortunately."

Trump also pressured the NOAA to change their forcast to match his claim,
which they refused to do, leading to three different investigations.

No, Nancy Pelosi wasn't arrested after ripping a copy of the State of the Union speech.

    Who has claimed she was?

Sounds more like a Far Right Wing Untrue Conspiracy Theory of the Day, or someone's joke of the day, than anything most sane people would believe.

Sort of like the internet rumour that was going around a few months back
that HRC's fainting spell before the 2016 election (where she almost fell
and had to be helped into a waiting van) was actually her being arrested
and then being dragged into the van.

If she was arrested, how come she was out so quick and no reputable news sources ever picked up on it?

You would think, right? But it is untrue, which makes it a lie, and it was spread on social media, to the point that Facebook had to block it as misinformation. Apparently some people believed it.

"Jesus was a white man, too. It's like we have, he's a historical figure that's a verifiable fact, as is Santa, I just want kids to know that. How do you revise it in the middle of the legacy in the story and change Santa from white to black?" -- Megyn Kelly

For those who don't know yet, Santa Claus isn't real. He's loosely based on a monk who lived in Turkey. The modern imagery of Santa Claus is largely due to Coca-Cola advertizing. Prior to that, he was depicted in a variety of forms, including as a gnome.

He is a "historical figure" but, yes, a fictional one. Coca-Cola is most responsible for him wearing a big red coat (and maybe also being large).

Jesus was a Middle-Eastern Jew and many scholars think that Middle-Eastern people of the Roman era looked much like what people of Middle-Eastern descent look like today.

That would mean Jesus was neither completely white or black. If he were filling out a census form, I think that would still make him caucasian,
    right?

I really don't care if people have a mental picture of Santa and he looks "like" them. I think it causes some folks with young children some anxiety, though. Like, how can a real person be white in our decorations, but look different in others? Kids are sharp and question stuff. If you want to
keep the childhood magic going for them, the harsh world of politics,
correct and otherwise, probably makes it difficult.

What he thought he was, what the government thought he was, and what his
fellow citizens thought he was could all be different. For a while in the US, people of Irish and Jewish descent weren't considered white. "White" is whatever anyone decides it is.

Ah, so keep Santa white for the sake of the kids. Prior to Coca-Cola, do you think that they were confused by all of the different forms Santa could take?

I think you're right: kids are sharp. Sharp enough, in fact, to realize what
a sweet gig the whole Santa thing is and not ruin it. Everybody's lying to everybody.
