• Ottawa Fights Back

From Brian Indy@1:229/426.31 to All on Saturday, February 19, 2022 13:06:47
Canadian law enforcement on Friday began using crowd control tactics to arrest and push Freedom Convoy protesters out of downtown Ottawa, where the demonstrators have been protesting the nation's draconian COVID-19 restrictions. Ahead of the crackdown, police told media to stay away from the scene, and also announced they would be removing the children of demonstrating families. Amateur footage of the melee showed police on horseback trampling demonstrators. Meanwhile, the Ottawa Police Department on social media accused protesters of assault, and of using their children as human shields.

    Nothing to see here....right?

Except for the horses and the good old American police brutality, that sounds
a lot like the US police response to some of the BLM protests.

Media stay away = the protesters have refused our temptations to become
violent on their own, so we are going to have to make it violent ourselves
    and don't want it broadcasted.

I saw some footage yesterday of Quebec police in riot gear whose uniforms
have their names and badge numbers removed, presumably so they couldn't get
in trouble. I was not aware that there was any unrest in Quebec also, so
there either is, or these police were in Ottawa to "help out."

In my opinion the media is lame and irresponsible, they wouldn't know the unadulterted truth if it walked up and whizzed on their leg. But someone should be there, someone with an unbiased eye needs to be there to record the events, if for no other reason than to keep both sides honest. The US Trucker Convoy/Strike is set to take off here in the US the first week of March. It'll be interesting and frightening to see what comes of that.

The Quebec-Ontario border basically transects the Ottawa/Hull area. In many ways, Ottawa and Hull are part of the same 'city'. It doesn't surprise me at all to see the SQ gearing up as well as the OPP.

I agree an unbiased eye needs to be there. The Louisville local news did a mostly good job of showing both sides of what went on there during the
    Summer of 2020.

I hope the US group has the sense to keep things peaceful, like their
Canadian brothers did. Force the government to show their hand and take ownership for it, if they want to react like Trudeau has.

I realized it was pretty close, but didn't realize how close. Thanks for pointing that out!
