    For the past few years the media has been talking about AI way too much, but they NEVER give any explanation of why it's so important.

    OpenAI's CEO is now "warning" that "AI must be paced by stronger safeguards, or else Terminator 2 will happen." There are dozens of similar news reports all saying the same thing, but they never explain why.

    President Trump (the only authority I trust) explained the reality perfectly clear: "China stands to benefit from the USA imposing "guardrails" on AI development, and the USA must stay on ahead of China in AI development.

    IOW: The left wants China to defeat us in AI development, and they think we're dumb enough to cripple our own AI development to make it happen.

    In the past couple years, AI has gone from a "neat toy" to being at least 50% of my job. Today, an AI agent with enough access and no guardrails could probably collapse the US economy in a pretty short time. Everything is controlled by computers, and AI agents are extremely good at doing the boring, repetitive, tedious tasks that humans are not good at, such as probing systems for vulnerabilities. They don't give up when they're bored, and newer models are getting better at thinking "outside the box".


    Meanwhile, the "High IQ" president has a secretary of education that can't even spell AI (She famously called it "A1", as in "A1 Steak Sauce"). When pressed if Trump used AI for anything he claimed "Yes I do" when pressed on how he used it, he refused to elaborate.

    I'm by no means an AI doomsayer. It's an incredibly useful tool and has made my job MUCH easier, and much more efficient. The way to prevent China from jumping ahead on AI is to prevent the exports of high end TPUs, NPUs and GPUs to China, and ENFORCING those restrictions. Companies like NVidia and AMD were restricted from selling their high end processors to Chinese customers by law until earlier this year, but China was still able to get them because it was poorly enforced. Both AMD and NVidia knew that their products were getting into Chinese customers hands, but they didn't care, because it was just more money in their pockets.

    Just as tools enhance a person's body and ability, computers have always enhanced a person's mind.

    When computers first came out, they were touted as "time savers", but that never really happened. Why? Because they allowed us do to so much more in the same amount of time.

    AI is the next level of that enhancement.

    The Elitists are deathly scared that that enhancement will be used to expose them and counter their activities. So AI must be restricted to them and they cannot allow us plebes to use it. Otherwise we might get smart and vote them all out.

    There have been a couple of cases where the AI "got away" and did things that were outside of its pervue.

    Ex: A test to have an AI hack a system went awry as the AI hacked an outside system.
    Ex: Someone asked their AI to figure out how to get on some schedule. The AI figured that it could cancel OTHER people's appointements without authorization, so it did that to get its "owner" on the schedule.

    Minor stuff. But it hints at what could be. Clearly shades of "Wargames" here.

    And he's right. But AI needs guardrails. The question is what those guardrails are.

    Perhaps we should program in Asimov's Laws of Robotics.

    The Left hates America. But that's not really part of the AI question.

    I'm glad that we're on the same side of this issue. It sounds like you would agree that the "guardrails" that we need implemented are restrictions on China, and not on ourselves.

    It's easy for AI developers to stop average people from using it for nefarious purposes, but people in their social circles wouldn't have those boundaries.
