    Hello Jimmy,

Some guns need to be taken off the market in order to prevent
such incidents. Semi-automatics are just one of those kind of weapons.

Do you know what a semi-automatic is? Are you a gun owner?

    Yes, and yes.

I'm happy to explain what it is and give you examples of semi-auto
    weapons...

I had fun shooting watermelons with mine. What did you do with yours?

I do NOT defend the actions of these 'nutcases' in any way, shape or form!

Well, except for the late Robin Williams. And Jonathon Winters.

Of course not. No sane person would. But it happens. Every day.
And something must be done about it. Sitting on your bum and doing >LL>nothing about it will not stop it from happening again. And again.
    And again.

So is this a case of "we have to DO something" to feel better? I've run >across people with that simple attitude. They don't really have a legitimate >solution, just that 'this has to stop!' I'm sincere when I ask that
    question!

We should do like the Japanese. They gave up guns. All of them.
Then Western powers tried to invade them. So they took up guns again.
And look at what happened. Used Pearl Harbor as shooting practice.

But that does NOT give someone the right to say that *I* shouldn't be >>allowed to have a gun for self defense, or hunting, or just going in
the back yard and SAFELY operating my guns for fun.

But it is okay for crazy people to do so? That is not a solution.

So how do you keep 'crazy people' from getting guns? Destroy them
all? Make it even harder to get them? Do background checks?

    All of the above.

Do you own semi-automatics? Are you willing to give them up? Would
YOU giving up YOUR gun prevent such incidents?

I'm happy to explain what it is and give you examples of semi-auto

Mostly shoot steel in the back yard. Occasionally skeets or paper, but I
like the 'ring' of steel, and it's nice to shoot at targets much farther
    away and hear that 'ring.'

I do NOT defend the actions of these 'nutcases' in any way, shape or form!

    And Japan's people are free?

But that does NOT give someone the right to say that *I* shouldn't be

Okay - let's take them in order...

How do you 'destroy them all' - and I mean ALL - guns? Can it be done?

Make it even harder to get. How do we do that? The law already is VERY intensive when it comes to purchasing a firearm.

As for background checks, that's already being done. Has been for SEVERAL years. Hasn't fixed anything...

That statement bothers me, unless you can say that your nearest neighbor
is at least hundreds of yards away. Discharging a firearm in a
residential neighbor is usually a crime.

Well I hate that you are bothered... I live on several acres surrounded by farmland. Nearest house is about 100 yards away, which is why we shoot in
the OTHER direction, with a dirt backstop, and the nearest house in THAT direction is about 5 miles away. When tractors are in the field we
    don't shoot at all.

Would you like to come do some shooting and see for yourself how
    safe we are?

Thanks for clarifying that and giving the facts. Sounds like you have
built a legitmate gun range behind your house.

    No, Your word is sufficient.
