• Diplomats warned of collapse

From Mike Powell@1:2320/105 to All on Thursday, August 19, 2021 19:26:14
This is being reported on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront" right now but I cannot find a link on their site. During the show, they also played a video clip of a US official saying that US citizens were not being harassed by the Taliban, which was followed by a later audio clip where he said he could not really guarantee that people with US passports were not being harassed.

On CNN, they are pointing out that Biden claimed during his ABC interview last night/this morning that there was no way to pull out without chaos but that, based on the memo, there were diplomats "on the ground" in Afghanistan who believe otherwise and voiced their opinions about it a month ago to the State Department. As a result, the US did start evacuating Afghan helpers faster but that other suggestions were basically ignored by the administration.

Internal State Department Cable Warned of Kabul Collapse
July memo shows that administration officials were cautioned about TalibanrCOs quick advance - WSJ

WASHINGTON rCo "An internal State Department memo last month warned top agency officials of the potential collapse of Kabul soon after the U.S.rCOs Aug. 31 troop withdrawal deadline in Afghanistan, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the document.

"The classified cable represents the clearest evidence yet that the administration had been warned by its own officials on the ground that the TalibanrCOs advance was imminent and AfghanistanrCOs military may be unable to stop it.

"The cable, sent via the State DepartmentrCOs confidential dissent channel, warned of rapid territorial gains by the Taliban and the subsequent collapse of Afghan security forces, and offered recommendations on ways to mitigate the crisis and speed up an evacuation, the two people said.

"The cable, dated July 13, also called for the State Department to use tougher language in describing the atrocities being committed by the Taliban, one of the people said."

I read that the Taliban is going "house to house" murdering people who have assisted the USA during our occupation. But don't blame Joe because he thought it seemed like a good idea at the time. He wonders if they have ice cream in Afghanistan.

I'm not a military expert, but to me it looks like there was never any plan to get people out safely. But it does look like there was a plan to make Biden look heroic by "bringing our troops home." Most of these people should have been brought home prior to the Taliban uprising. Does our CIA suck that
    bad at tracking those goons?

This administration already showed us the value of human life by creating the border crisis. If someone wants to live enough, then they'll swim through rivers. Now if people want to live, they will shield bullets with their bare hands.

For now, the Trump "Remain in Mexico" policy is back on. A court ruled
against the Biden administration on that either yesterday or this morning.

Interesting that they don't wamt refugees to remain in Mexico because that
is inhumane but don't have any issues with not getting Americans out of Afghanistan before the Taliban overran the country. They had 2-3 months warning that things were not going to go well. I guess being left behind without knowing your fate is not inhumane if you are a US citizen.

They did not want to start moving people out sooner because they didn't
want to hurt the Afghan government's feelings by showing a lack of
confidence. Biden was fine with leaving people there until it was too late.

People have gotten out safely. No Americans have died as a result of Biden's timetable. Do you not think that flying Americans out sooner would have precipitated the same response? Do you think that the Taliban would have
waited until all of the Americans were gone before taking over the country?
