• SlyEdit real name

From Andre@1:103/705 to Nightfox on Saturday, February 19, 2022 17:42:18
Does SlyEdit allow choosing real name versus alias when posting a message? Seems like it's only pulling from whether the subboard requires full names or not.

Also, when editing a message, is there a way to go back (or up) into the header area and change From/To/Subj?

I believe that's how it *should* work. The sysop chooses whether message areas use real names or aliases, not the users.

Fair point. Hard to keep track of some random areas where the mod comes up with unique rules (hams).

I certainly wouldn't make a feature request out of either item, but if they were there already it's not clear to me how to do them.

Do what I do and add your real name in your sig file... Moderators don't seem to mind that...

I did eventually figure this out. I didn't realize that the ESC Menu had four menus on it that I could navigate with arrows. I just saw the File menu and thought that was it.

Yeah, but then that falls on individual users to follow the rules, and DM is right that it's the sysop's job to do that. If I remember right from the Fido rules, twits are ultimately the originating sysop's fault.

I probably should make a sig file at some point, regardless.

SlyEdit doesn't actually post the message; it's just an editor (unless you're doing cross-posting, in which SlyEdit does post to the other areas besides the one you're currently posting in). Normally, SlyEdit just saves the message to a file and Synchronet is what actually posts the message to a sub-board.

Also, when editing a message, is there a way to go back (or up) into the header area and change From/To/Subj?

Yes, you can press Ctrl-S to change the subject.
That is listed in the help screen for SlyEdit; was that hotkey not appearing in the help screen for you?

Ctrl-S will do it too. :)

You can change the subject, but none other of the header info from within SlyEdit. The reason that works is because of the type of drop file used by SlyEdit. In order to be able to change the to/from from within SlyEdit, there would have to be more support from Synchronet itself in order to do that. Generally, SlyEdit just edits the message and it's Synchronet itself that posts the message.
