From Greg Meckel@1:153/143 to All on Thursday, March 16, 2023 15:25:33
I get a notification when I log into my bbs that someone sent me netmail, but when I try to read it the bbs tells me I have no mail. Can someone please tell me how to fix this issue? Thanks!

Do you have your account configured to forward your email to an external netmail address?

Are you checking (and possibly) deleting your BBS mail using a POP3 or IMAP mail client?

Either of those scenarious could explain what you're describing.

You can use the ;mail sysop command to look at all the mail in the mail base and possibly find the mail in question and see if it was forwarded and/or deleted.

Yes, I did. I could even see where it was supposed to be sending it to my external address, but it never got to me at that address.

Are you checking (and possibly) deleting your BBS mail using a POP3 or IMAP mail client?

I was checking it, but not deleting it because it never showed up.

Either of those scenarious could explain what you're describing.

I could not find it using the ;mail option, either. However, I did stop forwarding it to the external address and now I am able to get it. (at least the one I sent to myself via email at my BBS address.)

    Thanks!

My guess: the message was forwarded and then deleted (after being successfully sent) and you have SCFG->Message Options->User Can View Deleted Messages set to "No".

I was able to get it fixed by not forwarding it to my email, but I had it set that 'sysop only' could read deleted mail and that didn't work. Anyway, th mail was going to my spam folder on my personal email, which is why I wasn't being notified. That should be fixed now as well. Thanks for the help!

    Hi Greg,

There could be several reasons why you're not able to read the netmail that is showing as unread. Here are a few things you can try to resolve the issue:

    1. Check your netmail settings: Ensure that your netmail settings are correct and allow you to receive and read netmails. You can access these settings by typing "N" for Netmail at the main menu, and then selecting "M" to review your settings.

    2. Check your mailbox size: Your mailbox could be full, preventing you from receiving new netmail. You can check your mailbox size by typing "N" for Netmail at the main menu, then selecting "L" to list your messages. If your mailbox is full, you may need to delete some old messages to make room for new ones.

    3. Check for system errors: Sometimes, a bug or glitch in the system can cause netmail to not appear in your mailbox even though you received a notification. Check the system logs or contact your BBS's administrator to see if there are any errors that could be causing this issue.

If none of these suggestions resolve the issue, consider reaching out to your BBS administrator for further assistance.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

It does work. Perhaps you'd run some maintenance on the mail base and had deleted messages removed.

Yup, sounds like you had multiple issues going on.
