• Posting a ansi ad

From Havok@1:103/705 to All on Friday, October 06, 2023 14:55:06
Anyone notice a change in posting a ansi ad in a message conf?
I was posting ads all the time when running 3.19 now with the 3.20 upgrade
all the ads are messed up and do not show right?

Any ideas, I did not change one setting in the mesage areas after upgrading.

    Thanks...

    How are you uploading?

One way I do it is with /upload in the regular line editor.

The internal (line-based) message editor in Synchronet supports the uploading of message body text via ZMODEM or any other protocol configured by the sysop when using its "/upload" command.

The fseditor.js (full-screen editor) also supports direct-ZMODEM upload of message body text.

Maybe the problem is the files you're uploading.
    Hello
normally I would agree with you but if someone looked in the network
message ad areas I had no trouble /uploading a asci or ansi file and
it is the same files I used in 3.19 now 3.20.

Also I see in the message networks where a empty echo area use to state 0 messages now shows 1969 messages.

Now most times if I was going to pick a number that would be 1969.

I already posted an explanation of why that is: v3.19 didn't sufficient bounds-checking on uploaded message text, so super-long-line ANSIs like yours work "work", but could also corrupt the heap. That was fixed in v3.20 (max line lengths are now enforced). Saving your ANSI with max line lengths of 79 chars would work around the issue, but I'll give a better solution more thought.

Also I see in the message networks where a empty echo area use to state 0 messages now shows 1969 messages.

Now most times if I was going to pick a number that would be 1969.

I don't think there's any significance. Use 'smbutil' if you want to know what's going on with a message base.

it is the same files I used in 3.19 now 3.20.

Based on DM's explanation, 3.19 did not have a limit on the length of the
line in the file you were uploading so your files likely did work fine with 3.19. However, that lack of a limit was causing an overflow bug that
    needed to be fixed.

In 3.20, there is a line-length limit so your file needs to be resaved with a line-length of 79 characters or less. Not sure what you created the ANSIs
in, but TheDraw always asks me, during the save process, how many
characters per line I want to save the file with. To be safe, I always go
    with 76.

    I would resave the file with a line-length less-than or equal-to 79, like
DM suggested, and try it again.

Laughing here is something new for me, I found the the ICE editor has a
upload option also I use a modified ans and one of the old unmodified ad
files and both uploaded just fine into a message echo area.

    I'm just fine now!

    Thanks...

    Hello Mike

Like I replied to DM I got both files to work with the ICE editor, both files
    uploaded like a professional!

This is unrelated to the topic above... Did you receive the email I sent
you about FidoNet? You had given me the address to use in a MicroNet
message area, and now you don't seem to see/respond to anything there...

Are you still looking to get a FidoNet address, or not? If so, please
