  • DoorMUD and MUDs in general...

    So I am trying rebuild my BBS that I had back in the day. I see some Synchronet BBS's are running DoorMUD and 'End of the Line BBS' has The Ultimate Mud Connector. Where can I find these to setup on my own BBS?

    Now, the rub...and I think this is where you guys will tell me I will have some challenges. I am running Debian 12 underneath Synchronet BBS and I suspect that DoorMUD and that Ultimate Mud Connector are probably DOS only, right? So then, what options do I have?

    I have tried to compile DOSEMU2, but have been running into missing dependencies, missing repositories, etc. Because I would also list to prop up 'The Pit' in my door section as well.

    I am new to Synchronet and am still getting a 'lay of the land' if you will, but slowly and surely...I am making process, lol!

    What Linux distro are you using? If you use Ubuntu or Linux Mint or similar, you can install dosemu2 via a .deb package (or similar pre-compiled package) so you don't have to compile it yourself.

    DoorMUD was avaailbel as both 16-bit DOS and 32-bit Windows programs. I don't know about Ultimate Mud Connector. For DOS programs on Linux, DOSEMU is the answer, or using a Rlogin gateway to a door serve (perhaps running on a different, more suitable OS).

    What Nightfox said, https://github.com/dosemu2/dosemu2?tab=readme-ov-file - Go here, there's links for adding dosemu2 to your package app for Ubuntu, Fedora, and OpenSUSE. One for Ubuntu updates often, runs good. Follow guides on the wiki for actually setting up different doors.

    You can grab my dosemu2 setup. Just copy stuff over and it just works
    once you have dosemu2 installed.

    file that gives more details.

    The Ultimate MUD Connector is something I wrote myself as an exercise
    in how to not code very well and I don't distribute it. People may say
    that's selfish but I contribute in other ways, like an easy drop-in
    that just works for dosemu2.
