    Zip (pk, 7zip etc)

I don't bother anymore, everything here goes out uncompressed.

    Hello Dale,

Just a quick poll for those that read this echo, what is your default archiving tool and flavor used to bundle your mail?

If nodes want mail packed it's generally zip, and most nodes do still use that. I have other archivers but zip is the most widely supported.

ZIP, because it's the most widely supported.

If we weren't talking mail, then I use bzip or gzip along with tar.

I use ZIP because everyone else does. Personally I prefer ARJ.

For my BBS and Micronet, I support ZIP, ARJ, RAR, ARC, LHA, and ARC for mail packets.

ARJ is better at compression than ZIP and RAR in most cases. I quit using
RAR for my stuff because of backwards compatibility issues with varying versions of RAR.

I have several available but uunless specifically requested. I don't compress as I don't see the need these days.

I use Synchronet so as long as there's a binary for it, I can unarchive it, that said, since a lot of boards use Windows, I use unzip for pretty much everything.

none, nada, zilch... raw pkts please... archiving FTN mail is really not needed these days... that few extra seconds spent archiving/unarchiving pkts could be used for other more important tasks... not to mention that the raw
uncompressed pkt can be transmitted faster than the time it takes to compress it ;)

I default to zip mainly from laziness -- it's been that way for probably 15 years or more. Having said that, I can easily pack (or not pack) in any format my downlinks want -- takes only a couple of keystrokes to change.

    Cheers... Dallas
