My systems and networks all run off binkd, husky with some custom tools and apps to monitor.

Different BBS systems sit on top of all of this including Enigma, Synchronet, Mystic and my new
EleBBS fork EleBBS/SONIC. This makes it easy to test utilities and doors that I'm developing.

I have a custom made BBS called Nullmodem BBS, started as an experiment if it is possible to code a bbs solely with Claude Code.

After some fails the system is growing and available in a self hosted git server.

    Hi pweck

so are you adding components to you custom BBS that is not
available in the bbs software thats out there?

Mostly no -- the core is what every BBS does: Telnet/SSH with ANSI and
CP437, message and file areas, netmail, a BinkP mailer and tosser,
Areafix, doors, QWK. I'm rebuilding that from scratch (in Go) because I
enjoy it, not because the existing packages lack it.

Where it differs is mostly in how things fit together:

    - One read status everywhere: what I read over Telnet, in the web
portal, via QWK or in the phone reader is read everywhere.
    - A small mobile reader (installable web app) for iPhone/iPad/Android,
with a split view on the tablet.
    - My own offline reader app can log in as a point and post "as me" on
the BBS: the mail goes out under the board's address and origin, as
if written on the BBS itself.
    - Doors install with one click from the web admin (Usurper, Immortal
Barons, Judge Dredd, MRC chat ...), including background programs
like the MRC bridge, which the BBS keeps running.
    - A web-based ANSI editor for the board's screens, with template
    fields for live values.
    - Everything in one Docker image; the web admin can restart the
services when a setting needs it.

None of that is revolutionary, it's just the BBS I'd like to use.

    Greetings Mike

Message packets are duplicated to each board then they toss themselves into their messagebases.

Right now I'm working on EleBBS/Sonic, modernising the EleWeb component.
A plugin system now supports sysops writing their own with hooks into the board routines.
So far we have the following plugins:

elebbs-plugin-core - all new elebbs core features including eleweb
elebbs-plugin-admin - Sysop Admin, plugin management
elebbs-plugin-mailer - FTN mailer & tosser, FTN Hub support
    elebbs-plugin-msgcheck - FTSC Compliance checks for netmail/echomail/files

elebbs-plugin-bbslister - BBS Lister and telnet portal
    elebbs-plugin-mrc - MRC Chat client
elebbs-plugin-sonicedit - Full screen message editor

All plugins will be a one click install from the web admin.

It's all a work in progress right now but will be up and public pretty soon.

I've got a few BBSs on the go.

My oldest is running Mystic on a Rpi4. I've done a bunch of customizing on this one and being able to use Python helped me improve my programming skills a lot. Since there hasn't been much active development on Mystic lately I've been trying new things...

I've also got one running Synchronet on Debian, that I've done a fair bit with, this one helped me continue to improve my programming skills, there's so much out there with JavaScript these days so it was a natural progression.

This BBS is running Vision/3 on Debian. Vision/3 and my BBS is still pretty early in development but I'm having a lot of fun with it and since it also has a JavaScript engine it feels familiar enough for my feeble mind.

I've been really fortunate with Mystic on my Pi. I'm running it off a SSD via USB and it's been extremely stable and even acts as a NFS server for my Plex and is my SSH Jump host for connecting remotely to my other systems/VMs on my local network.

I'm in the process of replacing it with another Pi4 currently, just because Raspberry Pi OS doesn't support upgrading to newer versions and it's gettng long in the tooth now.

I may also just move it to an Ubuntu VM on one of my Proxmox VE servers, I haven't decided yet. The fact that I'm focusing more on other BBSes isn't helping get that done any sooner though. <g>

Yeah, I have had a Pi 3 and a Pi 4, and whilst they are astonishing for the money, I haven't ever had a stable experience, across a few different operating systems. I'm sure the Pi 5 is better. I believe the competitors in the single board computers have caught up now, too.
