• Nodelists

From Mike Dippel@23:250/13 to All on Monday, October 12, 2026 17:24:33
Does anyone add nodelists from networks that they are not a part of? I was thinking of doing this so I could have a compete list of all the active nets and who the members are.

I don't think it would accomplish much, but just wondering.

An interesting idea with keeping track of different FTN's is that if you could set up some sort of routing service so that as long as you are a member of one net you could contact all others through it.
It would allow systems from different FTN's to communicate with one another. Currently the only thing we have that is close to an e-mail address is FidoNet zones 1 through 3 that most bbs's are a part of.

    Hi Mike

Actually my System adds the Nodelist only from Systems i have a Filebase with the Nodelist coming in, i do not see the benefit of adding other lists, as there is no connection and therefore it will be confusing for the user.

    Greetings
    Mike

I have nodelists from networks I used to be part of but I don't really see the point in going out and searching for them. They cannot be used if you are not on that particular network.

With my personal setup, I route everything through my hub and nothing is direct so nodelists a pretty useless as far as routing traffic. I do use them with my global address book and nodelist viewer, of course.

That's what I was thinking of. Perhaps use it to do a search for your name and see how many networks you are listed in, even the dead ones.

Of course, you'd never know if you have the latest nodelist from a dead network unless you're going to send out FREQ requests or look through archives. Personally I know which networks I have been a member of because I never remove them, I just put them at a higher user level access so if anyone wants access for historical purposes, they're available. That's why I don't like removing echoes if they're removed from the net, because someone needs to archive all this stuff for prosperity.

I wish I had started this much sooner.
