• Node Lookup

From Khronos@23:250/14 to All on Tuesday, October 06, 2026 08:49:29
    Hi,
Does this node only use a nodelist for node lookup or is there dns resolution like there is in FidoNet for finding nodes for sending NetMail?

yes, you can use wildcards to search with - is that what you are asking?

    No.
What I am asking is does this FTN zone use dns if one node wishes to find another.
For example in FidoNet my dns entry would be:
    f205.n135.z1.binkp.net
This chops up the different sections of my node number in to dns entries that can then be looked up with out the requirement of a nodelist when a node wishes to send NetMail towards my node and doesn't wish to route the mail for me through their uplink.
So for example my node entry for this zone would look something like: f14.n250.z23.sysopnet.com or something close to this.

i am not sure - any sysops have an answer, it is something i'll look into...

No. What I am asking is does this FTN zone use dns if one node wishes
to find an er. For example in FidoNet my dns entry would be: f205.n135.z1.binkp.net This chops up the different sections of my
node number in to dns entries that n then be looked up with out the requirement of a nodelist when a node wishes send NetMail towards
my node and doesn't wish to route the mail for me throu their
uplink. So for example my node entry for this zone would look
something like: f14.n250.z23.sysopnet.com or something close to this.

That requires the fidonet system to have a nodelist for the net. You can't jsut expect it to work. Just use a nodelist for each net and you'll be fine.
