trying to get a feel for who's on the network. drop a line with yo handle, BBS name, software, and how long you've been running.

I started Realms BBS (and RealmsNet) back in 1994, and closed it in 95
or early 96. It was running Remote Access on DOS at the time from an IBM PS/2 386SX with a
14k modem. I recently rebuilt everything using Mystic and Synchronet.

the 90s were a great time for bbsing!

trying to get a feel for who's on the network. drop a line with your han BBS name, software, and how long you've been running.

I’ve been in the tech industry my whole life, but my networking journey really started back in the late '80s when I ran a two-line BBS called CyberDyne 2000 out of Budd Lake, NJ. When I started working for an ISP
in '94, the internet was just about to explode, and BBSing naturally slipped away for a while.

Fast forward to early 2025: I got into retro computing and was surprised to discover the BBS scene is still alive and kicking. I experimented
with a few different software packages before settling on Synchronet. In February 2026, I brought my music-focused board, Jersey Jam BBS, online. It currently runs Synchronet 3.21e on Windows Server Standard 2022, powered by a Dell OptiPlex 9020 i5 3.30Ghz with Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSDs.

welcome back, bbsing is making a slow comeback, but one all the same!

Yeah, well, I'm not partical to 500 lines of ansi files when I connect to a BBS which seems to be a Mystic norm. We all have our biases I guess.
