    DON'T think StarLink sats have weapons.

    Indeed this is something you wouldn't trust
    to regular commercial corps.

    However 'space' IS now vulnerable - and SO
    much defense and commerce relies on sats.

    As such, since anti-sat tech appeared a
    decade ago, something HAS to be done or
    yer badly screwed.

    No ... countries are NOT gonna "play nice".

    Interceptors for things AIMED at valuable
    sats is the first stage. Hit a bullet with
    a bullet, so to speak. However high-power
    lasers and masers now exist and CAN be used
    to f**k-up satellites on a moments notice.

    These are much harder to deal with. Not
    sure any 'all-purpose shield' CAN be made.
    Gotta seriously harden the sats. A gigawatt
    short microwave burst at a sat, how DO you
    deal with that ???

    Oh, this crap also means that alternative,
    ground/tower, data links must be created
    and QUICKLY. These are also vulnerable, but
    more certain, tracable, physical actions
    would be required. No deniability.



    Many years ago in the alt.satellite.tv.europe newsgroup,
    we were very busy hacking satellite pay-TV.
    Had it working, with some help..
    I did read one of the guys got arrested becausae he made a transmitter
    that got control of some satellite
    and changed something in its orbit or settings.
    Is is kids stuff,, and you can get near an upload site and record the
    uplinks,
    control and do whatever you want to those sats, simple replay or a bit
    more analysis of the signal
    to get access.
    I stopped hacking when politicians became very upset here, not worth
    going to jail for :-)
    Some went on and used the code and wrote programs using the decryption
    code and made money with it,
    they were arrested.
    *Nothing* is hack free.
    In my opinion all that is needed is 'motivation' to do something.
