Negotiations between Brussels and Beijing on the dispute around
electric vehicles have entered the final stretch ahead of a
make-or-break vote.
The European Commission has formally rejected an offer submitted
by Chinese manufacturers of electric vehicles (EVs) to close
the price gap between them and EU competitors, a wide gap that
Brussels argues is the direct result of vast subsidies pumped
by Beijing into the lucrative sector.

Tariffs and such are not ideal tools - but the EU
auto-makers have fallen well behind the curve and
their only hope lies in neutralizing the price
advantage of govt-subsidized Chinese vehicles.
In short, they have no choice. "Free market"
SOUNDS so good - but it never accounts for
what happens if your ENEMIES win the contest.
China means to dominate, totally dominate, the
world automobile market - not just EVs. The
central govt is heavily subsidizing its auto
industry, artificially lowering prices to levels
EU/US makers cannot compete with.
And a modern, complex, Chinese vehicle ... is there
a kill-switch built into the firmware ? The US govt
is already banning certain Chinese smartphones for
its higher-level operatives ... SO easy to hide
sabotage code in a modern hyper-complex chip/ware.
