President Joe Biden and his White House team are all hands
on deck to thwart a massive Chinese hack of several U.S.
telecommunications providers — but Beijing is still in a
position to spy on huge swathes of Americans, a top U.S.
cyber official told reporters Wednesday.
The president has been briefed “several times” about the
hack, and a special White House response group is meeting
to discuss it on a near daily basis, Anne Neuberger, the
White House’s deputy national security adviser for cyber
and emerging technology, said in a call on Wednesday.
The White House is also working in close cooperation with
at least eight U.S. telecommunications providers that have
been breached by the China-backed hacking group known as
Salt Typhoon, Neuberger said — the first official confirmation
of the number of affected providers in the U.S. In addition,
the White House has activated a new cyber defense task force
between the NSA, Pentagon, and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure
Security Agency to address the breach.
Still, none of the U.S. telecommunications providers have
managed to oust the Chinese hackers from their networks,
Neuberger warned, which means that a large number of Americans
remain vulnerable to Chinese eavesdropping.

First off, Joe doesn't know anything that's not on
his prompter ... doesn't matter how many times you
tell him. It's the back-room boyz handling this one.
But, FAR more relevant, it's been a week since news
of this started to come out. The Telco's STILL can't
get the Chinese out of their systems !
Who knows what the Chinese are leveraging while they
are still deep into these systems - surely stuff to
make the next attack better/faster/easier and kinda
totally beyond dealing with.
Look ... between China and Russia ... this is
the preliminaries, maybe the first salvos, in
a cyber-war. This stuff is not just punks fooling
around - it's state-sponsored efforts to get total
control of pretty much everything electronic -
including controls of power grids, nuke plants,
industrial controllers (huge variety of deadly
targets there), Telcos, banking, probably even
traffic lights and poop-plants in many areas.
Attackers always have the advantage in these things,
some new unknown trick. All the rest of us can do is
kinda stick our finger in the dike after it's already
broken, NOT good.
Some industries/institutions already should have made
offline redundant systems/records/capability. Betcha
hardly ANY have ....... hey, IT CAN'T HAPPEN HERE,
right ?

Notice the huge Social Security / Dark Web breach by NPD exposing literally every
person in the USA SSN disappeared from the news very quickly.
