• File Search Replacement for XP

Does anyone have a recommendation for a program that will replace XP's
    File Search program?

Back when I used Windows95/98, if I was using Explorer to rummage
through my hard-drive and hit F3 (or START->FIND->Files or Folders),
the OS would pop up a small dialogue box where I'd type in my search
    query and get the results.

In Win2K/XP, Microsoft changed this so instead of a dialogue box it
replaced the right pane of Explorer (which usually lists the drives
and folders) into the search dialogue and used the left pane to
display the search results. Annoyingly, there was no way to revert to
the file-management view without opening a new explorer window. This
resulted in a desktop cluttered with innumberable Explorer windows
    anytime I did a search. Messy! :)

I much prefer the Win9x way of doing things. Does anyone know of a
    replacement for WinXP's search? Preferrably stand-alone (e.g., I don't
want to replace Explorer with an entirely new shell), bloat-free, and
low (or no!) cost. I don't necessarily need anything that adds more
features to the search engine; generally I am satisfied with the speed
and the way Windows finds files. I just want a nicer front-end.

    Thanks.

I use "Total Commander" (former Windows Commander) since many years, www.ghisler.com it is a standalone filemanaging program which has the
old Norton Commander look and feel. It has many features including
search files / contents in file
