• removing hidden non-Windows components

I right-click on the task bar, and select 'properties'
then I check the 'hide inactive icons' checkbox on
    and press the customize button.

This brings me to a list of customized notifications,
which Yahoo Messenger is on... what config file can
I tweak to remove Yahoo from the Past Items list?
I have removed the software from my computer, but this
    still remains.

    Assistance is appreciated,
    Les

See "How to Clear Past Items from the Notification Area" (http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=283084).
