I have a dell optiplex gxa desktop pc with a 82440LX based motherboard.
After inserting a newly purchased RAM-module, a blue screen with the stop message PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA occures when booting windows 2000.
The memory module is a Crucial SDRAM 128MB PC133 unbuffered non-ECC CL3 16MegX64
BIOS reports the correct amount of memory.
What is the most probable cause of this problem? A faulty module, incompatibility problem with the motherboard, or a software (memory
management) problem in windows? In case of the latter, are there any knobs
to twiddle?

NO - The MB must support the access speed of the RAM - My understanding
is you can put 100Mhz ram in a 133 MB but not the other way round. I
think it is to do with the RAM refresh cycle. The faster ram has 7-8ns
refresh - the slower >10ns, it IS sometimes settable in the Bios. I
tried New RAM in an old PC and some of the faster RAM _would_ allow the
boot sequence to get to various stages - one even to getting the Windows desktop - but as soon as I did anything - bang - blue screen. Other
sticks of 133 just wouldnt let the system boot....
