It may not be XP alone taking up 700Mby - if you look you will probably
find that system RESTORE is on and this can consume large amounts of
disk space - on my system on the Boot drive (C) this folder

    System Volume Information
contains over 7700 files and is taking up 3.14 Gby disk space.

Every few weeks I switch off system restore- reboot - to clear out this directory and recover the space - then switch restore back on and reboot
    - you DO want to be able restore your system back a few days etc and
this makes sure you dont maintain restore pojnts for months which arent
rellay valid any more. Its a pity XP dodnt have a way of selecting the
number of days you want to go back....

This may be the cause of some of the space being taken up - however this directory ISNT in the Windows folder .... My XP Windows folder currently
has about 1.6Gby of space used ... but there is a directory containing
the Service Pack up data (260Mby), and Service pack Uninstall (210Mby)
    System32 (740Mby)

    Not suer if this helps!
