I installed a second hard drive the other day and wanted to install xp
pro on this drive as well as my original drive and have a dual boot
system. The new XP OS installed normally and works fine. However, when
I tried to boot into my old XP I got an error saying something along
the lines of the file windows/system32/config/system was either
missing or corrupt. I booted with my XP installation CD and attempted
a repair install. After the repair install was complete, when I tried
to boot to the old XP (the one I just "repaired") I am faced with the administrator log in screen. When I try to log in I get this message: "System could not log you on due to the following error: Specified
domain either does not exist or could not be contacted." Thing is,
this computer is at home and has no domain. I specified no domain and
I am not given an opportunity to sellect a domain to log in to. I get
this error no matter what password I use or if I use no password at
all. I'm stumped. I can boot into the new XP OS and view the files on
the old drive and my old data is intact. Is there any way to salvage
the old OS with my old data intact?
Although I don't have any suggestion to help you with your problem, I
should very much like to know the reason for setting-up the same OS on
two separate hard-disks, attached to the same system and connected to
the same mother-board.
I just acquired a new ultra 160 SCSI drive and wanted to compare the
difference between IDE 133 and the SCSI drive.
BTW I like the performance of the SCSI drive but at 10,000 RPM it
emits a barely detectable but almost deafening ultra high freq
whine...
