• W2K can't access system settings

Something weird has happened to my computer. About a week ago I
noticed that when I invoke Task Manager it only comes up for a second,
then closes itself - no message. I sometimes use MSConfig to control
the startup of my system. Same story there. I tried Regedit to try and
find the problem, same story there. Almost as if some program is
running in the background and trying to hide itself. I even logged on
as Administrator - same story, so I don't think it is security
related. Anyway, it is a single user home computer (it is networked to
a seperate computer connected to the internet) and I am the only user.

Is there any way that I can access my comuter without redoing the OS
and if it is a rogue program to eliminate it? If you think it is
security setting that changed, which settings will I be looking at?
