I recently changed gfx card, and have started to have a problem with directx...
I used to be on a Voodoo3 PCI card, and moved on to an Geforce3 - the
voodoo drivers *were* uninstalled, and the display set to standard VGA
prior to installing the Nvidia drivers.
Now i`m finding some games refuse to play, and dxdiag reports this when testing the Direct3D functionality:
Direct3D 7 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT
= 0x80004005 (Generic failure)
Direct3D 8 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT
= 0x8876086c (error code)
Direct3D 9 test results: Failure at step 8 (Creating 3D Device): HRESULT
= 0x8876086c (error code)
I`ve seen a suggestion to disable and re-enable Direct3D, which hasn`t
worked, and apart from uninstalling the newest WHQL drivers and reverting "back" to the ones that came with the card itself (they were never used,
and are probably quite old), i`m stumped :-}
I`ve also tried a 3rd party directx uninstaller, which lead me to me
being unable to reboot successfully, and had to "reinstall" over the top
of my existing setup to get me going again - followed by installing the Directx 9.0a again.
Anyone got any suggestions ?
TIA :-}
