• Error $110A

    From rthomas@rthomas@wwlnk.net (Robert Thomas) to comp.sys.apple2 on Tuesday, July 08, 2003 16:40:14
    From Newsgroup: comp.sys.apple2

I've had some real trouble installing software under System 6.0.1
today. None of the things I was trying to install worked properly. The Marinetti installer (downloaded from the offical website) aborted in
the middle of the install citing an illegal filename. I've tried to
install IR 2.0.2 and it crashes the Finder into monitor while booting
(just before mounting my CFFA, maybe that has something to do with
it). PmPUnzip and other programs die on error $110A. All of these
problems have added up to a huge waste of time for me and i'd like
some help figuring out how to resolve them.

I'm no expert on such things mind you, but I think you might have a better chance of finding help with your problems by directing your posts to a newsgroup that is geared towards the Mac. This newsgroup is concerned with
the older 8 bit Apple II series of machines, a different variety of Apple altogether. There may be folks here who have the answers you seek, but
there are sure to be a larger number of people that know about such things
in a Mac related newsgroup. Good luck finding help!

His is a legitimate Apple IIgs question!

I realize that lots of Mac newbies (or maybe just newsgroup
newbies) drift in here and ask away without listening to what
is going on, but the OP isn't one of them. ;-)

(BTW, I would first try to eliminate expansion memory as
    a source of the problem.)

    I have a ROM 03 with a IIgs Memory Expansion Card (1MB) I've been
meaning to pick up a Sirius RAM (8MB) for a while but I just lost my
job so shelling out $100 might take a while. I'd still like to know
    what error $110A is.

Oops! I sit corrected. Methinks my relative ignorance of the post IIe

I think setting my FTP client to force binary downloads instead of auto-detect will help rule out one problem. Also, is there a good disk
repair program? Finder refuses to delete a folder I unpacked citing a
    file not found error.

Looked up Error $110A in our ProDOS 16 manual. The description is:

"Illegal load record found: A record in the segment is of a type not
    accepted by the loader."

One interpretation is that the files you are trying to load are
    messed up.

Setting your FTP program to force binary downloads could help
a lot. For more about getting good downloads and repairing downloaded
    files, see GSWV: http://196.25.210.13/gswv/a2zine/DownloadHelp.htm

A good IIgs disk repair program is ProSel-16.
