What do you exactly do with a linguistics degree anyways?

Silly, you become a linguist. Everyone knows that. :-)

A lot of us end up in academia, doing research; some of us (me,
Larry Wall [who is also a linguist]) end up in computers. A very
few actually get commercial jobs doing AI and interface research,
which I've always been interested in, but not enough to actually
go out looking for those kind of positions.

And some of us end up as sysadmins. Not that I got the degree, I
dropped out after two years, but I'm still at the linguistics dept.
