Why do PCs need to play DVDs. That is what a DVD Player is for. That is
    what
    a VCR was.

What if I want to play games on my bigscreen TV, watch DVD's and capture programs when I'm not home so I can watch or even put them on CD later? I
don't need stand-alone DVD or VHS to do that now. No need when I have a multifunctional PC, hell I can even play C64 games on my bigscreen TV with
    an emulator...

The world changed from a thinking about what is necassary to what ever
    they
    want.

That's why humanity has progressed past horse and cart and carrier pidgeons,
so unless you use those I find your comment rather ironic.

Back to Commodore, how much support did Commodore give the 8-bit line
once they transitioned to the Amiga? Heck, ask anyone with an Amiga
1000 how much support they got when Commodore replaced it with the
A500 and A2000? Sorry, Richard, but your point is a meaningless and
    baseless rant against Microsoft.

Heh. Maybe Rick has been spending too much time around Lord Ronin lately.

    [rant snipped]
After your rant against anything greater that 16-bits, it seems strange that you posted your rant from a 32-bit machine... . Oh well, it really destroys
    the credibility of your rant!

BTW, somewhere you wrote, "Why would we ever need anything faster than 2 Ghz?" Remember that 20 years ago people were saying the same thing about 2 Mhz. Technological progress marches on. Computers don't become obsolete quickly because it was planned that way, but because improvements in computer technology are occurring at a very rapid pace.

Try to understand that. It is really a simple precept.
