Lucky for me, I don't have to worry about international shipping rates... I have a military FPO address, so anything shipped to me here in Japan from
the U.S. is at regular domestic rates.

And for people that have asked me to keep an eye out for Japanese C-64's and VIC-1001's, if I ever come across one, the first one will be for me! If I
come across more than one, I'll more than likely put it up on eBay. I don't speak Japanese well enough to post messages on any Japanese message boards,
and I've never seen any shops with any "vintage" computer equipment during
the years I've lived in Japan. In general, Japanese people tend to buy new things every year (this being pretty much everything, from home
enteratinment equipment, to computers, to appliances... even cars!), and whatever they replaced gets thrown in the trash. Sadly, this means that
there are probably VERY few Japanese C-64's and VIC-1001's out there, as
most of them probably ended up in landfills long ago.

For now, anyway, I'll just have to keep myself content with my American "import" C-64. :-)

Yes, I sold a MSD on E-BAY to someone in Japan. Shipping was almost $50 surface!

    Not this Japanese! ;)

    Sadly most likely.

... Do you know if there is a special PET/CBM version for Japan? I mean,
one with special characters and/or a special keyboard?

I believe that it had a english/japanese keyboard like "apple macs"
have ! It was running but the characters were in English.

On the keyboard, each key has a english character and just below it is
    a japanese kana character.

Thats all that I can remember (apart from the 56 000 yen price - about
    500 US $)

On yahoo Japan - there is a PET machine for auction now as well as a
    CD32 and an Amiga 1200 !

... oh, I didn't know that. All one hears about is the VIC-1001 and the Japanese 64. But that IMHO just can't be all.

... yes, and the problem with 99.9999% of Japanese people is that they
don't ship worldwide and that either we don't speak Japanese or they
don't speak any other language than Japanese. :-(
